“T-Force” Tom Scalps Cantlay!
What fortitude! What determination! What skill! What talent! We can simply go on no end but the point to note is that this 20-year-old South Korean phenom went up against one of the PGA Tour’s best and brought him down to win his second title on the world’s most toughest professional tour.
Hyung Joo-Kim aka Tom aka “T-Force” put on a tremendous display to prove to the world that he was no one-shot fluke after winning the 2022 Wyndham Championship. Today, he put on display his incredible skill to win the 2022 Shriners Children Open by beating one of the PGA Tour’s top stars, Patrick Cantlay by three shots to take the top spot at 24-under par.
Tom shot a 5-under 66 in the final round to finish bogey free, the first to do so since Joaquin Niemann at the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Looks like there’s going to be no stopping this young South Korean from realising his dream to becoming the best player in the world.
Tom is the son of professional South Korean golfer, Kim Chang-ik and turned professional in 2018. That year, he started participating in various tournaments of the Philippine Golf Tour. The following year, he mostly participated in Asian Development Tour. He had two fourth-place finishes in Malaysia and two runners-up finish in Thailand that year. Additionally, he won his career first event at the PGM ADT championship.
In November 2019, Tom won the Panasonic Open India and became the second youngest professional to win an Asian Tour event. He earned an entry to the 2020 Open Championship by placing fourth in the SMBC Singapore Open.
Recently Tom won the Singapore International 2022, by defeating Rattanon Wannasrichan in a playoff. He finished the season as the leading money winner of the Asian Tour. At the 2022 Open Championship, Tom placed T47. Following that, he placed 7th at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, which got him an entry to the PGA Tour 2022-23 season.
Tom earned a spot on the international team for the 2022 Presidents Cup. He won two and lost three of his five matches there. In addition, the media acclaimed him as one of the event’s stars thanks to his entertaining performance.
