Rafa Stages Spectacular Scottish Open Play-Off

Spain’s Rafa Cabrera Bello (pictured) came from behind and muscled his way to victory in the 2017 Scottish Open.

The Spaniard raced up the final round leaderboard to catch Englishman Callum Shinkwin with a new course record of 8-under par 64 and forced a sudden death play-off. Rafa’s share of the purse of US$7 million was US$1,166,669.

He took down Shinkwin in the first play-off hole to score his third win on the European Tour.

Shinkwin, an unheralded journeyman ranked No. 405, earned a playing spot in next week’s British Open.

Matthieu Pavon and Andrew Dodt joined Shinkwin in qualifying for the Open courtesy of a top-10 finish for non-exempt players.
