Maiden Win For Lopez

Mexico’s Gaby Lopez (pictured) hung tough as she battled against the reigning world number one, Ariya Jutanugarn to pick up her maiden LPGA title by winning the Blue Bay LPGA by one stroke in Hainan Island.

A day after turning 25, Lopez closed with a 73 for a 72-hole score of eight-under 280. The victory at the tournament co-sanctioned by the China and US LPGA Tours was worth US$315,000.

World No. 1 Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand finished runner-up after also posting a 73, while France’s Celine Boutier roared up the leaderboard in closing with a 66 to finish third at two strokes back.

Defending champion Feng Shanshan was the top Chinese in ninth place as the World No. 11 closed with a 68, seven strokes off the pace.
