Korda Scores A Double!
Olympic-bound American Nelly Korda (pictured) claimed the 2021 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, her first Major victory. With this incredible win, the kid sister of Jessica Korda is now ranked as the world’s number one female golfer!
The 22-year-old American put on a master-class and sailed home three shots clear of a determined Lizette Salas who had to settle for second place.
A successive round of 68 from Korda that featured two eagles saw her finish on 19-under par. Speaking to reporters, Korda said, “This is something I’ve worked for since I was 14. To finally get it done here in Atlanta with such an amazing crowd, it’s really special. I tried to keep a level head, and keep it one shot at a time.”
For the win, Korda banked in a check for US$645,000.
Third place was a tie between former winner, South Korea’s Hyo-Joo Kim and Giulia Molinaro who both finished locked on 1-under par.
Besides a third place finish for Asia, players from the Continent did well. Amongst those who did well in the top twelve placings on the leaderboard are:
