Fowler Toughs It Out To Win!

For a moment, it looked like Rickie Fowler (pictured), the third-round leader at the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open, would lose out to the charging South African Branden Grace.

Fortunately for Fowler, two late birdies allowed him to hang on to a final score of 17-under par for a two-shot victory over Grace.

Fowler started the day with a four-shot advantage over Matt Kuchar. Instead, Fowler gave two shots back with a double bogey on No. 5. He appeared to settle in with four straight pars and a birdie before things fell apart on No. 11. His triple bogey gave Grace an opening to briefly take the lead before settling for second place.

But like the champion that he is, Fowler stuck out, regained his composure and went on to win.

Asians had a good outing at the tournament with new-comer, South Korea’s Sungjae Im tied for 7th at 11-under par. Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama wrapped up his campaign tied at 9-under par.
